Update from the Director Print E-mail

New beginnings often inspire hope and great expectations. New years and new decades can do likewise, especially when they follow seriously challenging times. 2009 was a very challenging year!

Last year The American Red Cross was challenged by new leadership and new direction at the national level. Locally, we were challenged by a move to a new location necessitated by unlivable conditions at our old locale, a difficult economy, and loss of a key employee.

We managed to meet all of these challenges head-on and happily enter 2010 in a much more palatable environment, ready to take on new challenges while continuing to meet the immediate needs of fire victims, to teach life-saving skills, to connect service people around the world to their Moore County families, and to guarantee a safe and sufficient blood supply.

We pledge to continue doing all the things that have made The American Red Cross America's disaster relief specialists. But, we need your help to do all that is necessary. Blood and disaster volunteers are needed. And, monetary support is desperately needed to help us overcome a tough 2009. With strong public support we will have an outstanding 2010 and a superb decade of service to our county, state, and nation.

Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely, in service to humanity,

A.J. "Buddy" Spong
